Conquer NYC's airports
on foot.

Run to LGA, JFK, EWR, and TEB from the city and join the ~highly elite~ club.

See the rules

What is this?

You can only run up and down the West Side Highway so many times. We run in (and travel from) NYC and wanted to mix it up. After running to LaGuardia Airport by accident, we decided to try running to 3 other NYC airports (JFK, Newark, and Teterboro) as well.

It was a lot of fun, so we want to share the challenge with others. Send your Strava tracks for the 4 runs, and we'll mail you a free sticker (shown above) to commemorate!

What are the rules?

Rule 1: Start from anywhere in Manhattan, and get as close as you can to the airport (ideally within 100m). If you're not taking a flight, how you get back is up to you :)
Rule 2: You can take ferries to get to New Jersey, but you should take the most direct ferry route (e.g., from Downtown to Newark, that's probably Brookfield Place to Paulus Hook). If you want to run through Staten Island or over the GW Bridge, go for it by all means!
Rule 3: All 4 runs must be recorded on Strava.

Example routes (just suggestions!)

LaGuardia (LGA)

This one is a good one to tackle first, since it's on the shorter side, fun, and scenic! It ends up at the boardwalk, overlooking Flushing Bay and runway 31 arrivals. Get some Chinese food in Flushing as a reward!

Protip: You can even run up to the terminal to catch your flight (Don't try this at JFK!)

  • Distance: 8 - 10 miles
  • Preferred Route: Ditmars Blvd > Boardwalk

John F. Kennedy (JFK)

There's more than one way to get there! If you like water, run along the Belt Parkway.

We like to cruise down Queens Boulevard, turn south in Kew Gardens, and end up at Idlewild Park sports fields for a clear view of runway 22R. This is a great way to see a ton of different Queens neighborhoods.

  • Distance: 14 - 17 miles
  • Preferred Route: Queens Blvd > 130th St > Rockaway Blvd > Idlewild Park

Newark (EWR)

See on Strava

If you've made it this far, you're probably pretty committed, but this run is not for the faint of heart. Unless you want to make it ~very~ long, it involves a ferry ride and running on some moderately dicey industrial roads. Be safe!

But...as a reward, you'll end up at IKEA, and with great airport views across the train tracks.

  • Distance: 14 - 17 miles (~30 without ferries)
  • Preferred Route: Downtown Manhattan > Jersey City > Grand St > Communipaw Ave > Industrial Jungle
  • Let us know if you find a better route!

Teterboro (TEB)

See on Strava

This is a fun run to NYC's private jet airport. It takes you across the GW Bridge (great views!) and through some suburban neighborhoods in NJ.

Check out the aviation museum at the airport open Wed - Sat.

  • Distance: 12 - 16 miles
  • Preferred Route: Riverside Walk > Main St > Overpeck Park > Sylvan Ave
